Postgraduate Sustainable Practice Options

Ara offers three sustainable practice qualifications at postgraduate level that you can study anywhere, anytime.

Our sustainability-related postgraduate programmes are designed to equip you as a change-maker who can lead innovative problem solving in sustainable practice.

You’ll gain skills and expertise that can be applied to any context and develop your ability to work collaboratively with others in multidisciplinary teams.

You’ll also gain advanced knowledge of:

  • sustainability conceptual frameworks (including the UN Sustainable Development Goals)
  • organisational and social change theory and practice
  • policy and sustainability performance indicators
  • indigenous worldviews and knowledge related to sustainable practice, particularly Kaupapa and Mātauranga Māori

And skills to:

  • critically analyse, evaluate and reflect on personal and professional values, perspectives, assumptions and practices alongside sustainability-related problems and solutions
  • utilise, apply and conduct real-world research

These new skills can be applied to existing professional contexts and can lead to new careers in sustainable practice, such as sustainability management positions that are emerging at a rapid rate.

Each of our postgraduate sustainable practice qualifications can be studied full-time or part-time. Courses are delivered through a mix of short face-to-face wānanga block courses (3 or 4 days at the beginning of each semester), innovative online tutorials and weekly online Zoom workshops. This means you can study while you work, and from anywhere in Aotearoa New Zealand.
