Pearson Test of English
PTE Academic Official Test Centre
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) is a computer-based secure English test that allows people to demonstrate language skills for university and migration applications.
PTE Academic is accepted by all New Zealand universities, institutes of technology and polytechnics, and private training establishments, as well as by a growing number of professional associations. PTE Academic is also accepted by Immigration New Zealand for all visa applications with language requirements.
Tests are offered four times a week and results are available within five working days. The standard test fee is NZ$410 including GST.

PTE Academic test dates
PTE Academic tests are held at Ara Institute of Canterbury on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the year (excluding public holidays).

We recommend taking a Scored Practice Test to get used to the timing and to moving through each type of question. PTE Academic is taken using a QWERTY keyboard, where the letters on the top line spell ‘QWERTY’. If you’re not used to this type of keyboard, we recommend that you practise using one before your test.
Results
Pearson aims to provide results within five business days of your test. You’ll receive an email to notify you that your results are ready and then you can access your results online and share them with institutions or government departments.
Cancellations, refunds and transfers

Please note that there are timelines and fees applicable to these changes.
If you decide not to take the PTE Academic test after making your booking online, you have up to 14 full calendar days before your test date to claim a full refund.
If you cancel the test, with less than 14 calendar days, but at least seven full calendar days before your test date. you will receive a partial refund (50% of the test fee paid).
If you reschedule the test, with less than 14 calendar days, but at least seven full calendar days, before your test date, you will pay 50% of the test fee.
No refunds will be provided on cancelling or rescheduling the exam less than seven calendar days before the exam.
Note: The cancellation and reschedule policy does not include your test date.
Refunds
Pearson may, in its sole discretion, offer you a refund for any testing fees where you have registered and paid any testing fee directly to Pearson. Full refunds are only offered where:
- you change your mind no less than 14 full calendar days prior to your scheduled test date; or
- if you are unable to take the test due to illness (and can provide a medical certificate) in accordance with this test taker’s handbook.

Test day information
When you arrive, our Test Centre Administrators will guide you through our check-in process to make sure you understand and are comfortable with the rules and procedures. They will request copies of your ID, ask for a digital photograph and signature, scan your palm, assign you a locker for your belongings, and ensure you are ready for your test.
