Navigating uncharted professional space
Timaru’s Pauline-Jean Luyten made history as the first woman of Tonga and Pacific descent to be appointed onto the New Zealand Rugby Board. She’s experienced many other ‘firsts’ throughout her career including various governance roles across South Canterbury. At our April Breakfast + Upskill event she’ll share insights on navigating traditionally untypical spaces, in particular for women or people with Pacific heritage.
Born and raised in Timaru, Pauline studied law, science and sports medicine at the University of Otago. After working as a legal adviser in Wellington and in private and public practice across New Zealand and Australia, she returned to South Canterbury to practice law. She enjoys assisting her clients with everything from practical solutions for their trusts, estates and asset protection to help with employment, wills and dispute resolution.
Pauline is an emerging director on the New Zealand Rugby Board, co-chair of the NZR Pasifika Advisory Group, a trustee of the Community Trust Mid-South Canterbury Trust, and a former member of the South Canterbury Rugby Board, the South Canterbury Psychosocial Interagency Recovery Committee and Chair of the Tongan Society South Canterbury. She lives in Timaru with her husband and three children. She enjoys the outdoors, mountain running and all sports in general.
