Tutor profiles
Arifah Addison
Arifah has a professional background in database design, data analysis and reporting in corporate environments. With a Bachelor of Applied Computing from Lincoln University and a Master’s in Human Interface Technology from Canterbury University, she has a keen interest in the ‘human’ side of technology. As well as core analytics techniques, she specialises in teaching students how to utilise design and user psychology to effectively communicate their ideas.
Arifah’s master’s project investigated how people’s implicit biases affect how they react to visual stimuli, utilising statistical analysis methods which she passes on to her students. Her current research focuses on how to attract more females into the IT industry, so that a wider range of talented people will view IT as a viable career.
As a lecturer, Arifah is committed to her students acquiring highly useful skills that can be used in any industry, and in finding where their passions and abilities lie so they have fulfilling and rewarding careers.
Dr Bernard Otinpong
Dr Bernard Otinpong is a dynamic lecturer with a passion for teaching analytics. With a PhD in Software and Information Technology from Lincoln University, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the classroom. Dr Otinpong is known for his engaging teaching style, combining theoretical concepts with real-world applications to create an enriching learning experience for his students.
Dr Otinpong’s PhD project was on computer and data visualisation and that is where his main research interests lie. He has published journal and conference papers in data visualisation and business intelligence. He also actively contributes to the advancement of analytics through his research projects and collaborations with industry partners.
As a lecturer, Dr Otinpong is dedicated to empowering his students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the field of analytics. Whether leading interactive lectures, facilitating hands-on workshops or mentoring students in research projects, he is committed to fostering a supportive learning environment where students can thrive and develop their analytical capabilities.
